SPAN NOW - Prices Collect/Update
What is
This process is designed to collect F&O prices from their market websites. Usually Hivedome will have setup, in the server overnight BATCH procedures, for the automated collection/processing of these prices.
If that overnight process fails, for whatever reason e.g. can not access the Internet, proxy server issues, the website was inaccessible at the time of execution, the Span x ZIP files were not available on the website at the time of SPAN_NOW collection then authorized users can activate SPAN_NOW. IF total failure to download prices, then use TPRICE with bulk import or manual entry features.
This procedure is a 2 part process, collect prices from relevant WebSite (if the service is offered by the Exchange/Clearing Operation); the website URL needs to be maintained in TERMCODES/Download Parameters. Part 2 is the update of the ITAS database tables. Please note that the SPAN file collection procedure is ONLY a tool for ease of TPRICE entry i.e. ITAS is NOT responsible for collection of the Exchange data.
The 3rd feature is the Report tool bar icon, this will list the ticker/span codes that the website .zip contains. The data file (not .zip) needs to exist in /span/old/ directory in order for the Report feature to operate. Select in the 'download panel' the exchange(s) that are required to be reported. Sometimes a product description is included by the website. The list will also indicate if any TCCM has been setup with that code.
The collection uses secure ftp and Hivedome can enable the collection of market data from various URLs. Hivedome will provide sample download information (gf_dload) and the style of how the data is maintained on the URL. The result of the download is usually .ZIP files and the ITASSPAN.log in the directory itas\log.
The update process will unzip the downloaded files and update TPRICE, TCCM and SHARE with the closing/settlement prices. Span arrays are also secured in a series of gf_ tables and can be viewed from TCCM on a instrument by instrument basis, using the span icon on the TCCM task bar. The Option Delta calculation; Delta is usually calculated by ITAS except when there is no underlying Futures Price (e.g. Spread Options), in those situation the delta supplied from the website is secured. There is a S01 setting (ctrl10_spandelta=Y) that will ALWAYS secure the website Option delta. Hivedome does NOT monitor the websites for any changes to the markets methodologies of data presentation. This does create issues when the sites change and the SPAN_NOW can not process satisfactorily. In those situations, TPRICE can be used to update the closing prices manually, until Hivedome are informed and suitable changes to the software can be made..
The span calculation for deposits/original margin is an integral part of ITAS and the workings can be viewed from CLI/Equity/Span Workings. See TCCM/3rd party codes for definition of other SPAN collection data, see help? on each field.
The principal codes are the ticker, numbers of decimal places on incoming files and the file format.
Hivedome would need to be consulted, if an exchange/website changes its format.
If the .ZIP / .DAT files for an exchange have been collected manually and placed in the ITAS directory /SPAN for the SPAN NOW process, the span.dat configuration would need to be changed to not attempt to collect by FTP i..e instead of the ftp command apply the wording NONE
